FAQ's

First, a shout out of thanks to my two regular readers, whoever you are (you should leave a comment)!

Why review bad movies?
Because anyone can tell you to watch "Citizen Kane," but who'll tell you to watch "Godmonster of Indian Flats?"

Do you ever watch good movies?
Yes, but they're not as plentiful as bad movies. They keep churning out the bad ones.

How do you find out about these movies?
Sometimes by accident, but usually through word of mouth. Every few years, someone comes forth as a self-proclaimed expert on bad films and I look through what they've reviewed; there's usually a number of films that escaped my notice among them.

Why are your reviews so short?
Most films aren't deserving of in-depth discussion. Also, I think reviews should simply let you know if you'd like a film and that doesn't require a course in semiotics.

What don't you review?
There are very few hard-core porn films worth considering, because, if people have sex in them, they've pretty much met their standard (I'm still debating a few, like "Dracula Meets the Outer Space Chicks," because where else will you hear about them?) The same goes for martial arts films; most of them achieve their goals. Failed comedies are rarely worth seeing or reviewing, nor are blockbusters that don't meet expectations.

Do you review every bad movie you see?
Not even close! Maybe one in thirty gets consideration for review. I have a grand list of films I might consider reviewing, then pare the list according to a number of factors, which culminates with answering the question: "Do I feel like writing about that film?"

Why do the films skew so old?
The master list of films I'm looking at has an average release date of 1980 +/- 15 years, but many of the newer films get cut at the last minute because I just don't find them interesting (I started loosening my standards recently and will go back and reconsider films once I get through my first mostly-alphabetical sort). Each generation has its own standards for what makes a great bad movie; the baby boomers chose "Reefer Madness," my generation chose "Plan 9 From Outer Space," the next seems to be choosing "Manos, the Hands of Fate" and I expect everyone chooses something that came out just before they were born.

What's the worst movie you've ever seen?
"Lingerie Kickboxer." Now let's never speak of it again.
