Manos - Hands of Fate (1966)

How bad is it? It is considered by many as the worst film of all time.
Should you see it? Yes.

This film had a cult following before MST3K did their take on it (I'm told it's their best, but I've never seen the episode) and has only grown in reputation over the years. Producer/director/writer Hal Warren also stars in this, as a man who, with his wife, daughter and poodle, get lost in the Texas desert and stop for directions at an old house, where they meet a character named Torga. Torga's motions are kind of spastic and he has grotesquely swollen kneecaps - for no apparent reason - and the film just comes to a standstill as it waits for him to remember his lines. The family forces their way into the house and encounter Manos, leader of a religious cult, and his harem, who perform rites in the backyard altar of the Night People. Torga and Manos argue in escalating fashion until Manos burns off Torga's hand in a sacrificial fire. There's a "surprise" ending. There's also a catfight, only one set and two songs: "The Way" and "Baby, Do a Thing With Me." The film is filled with pointless jump cuts and lacks continuity. The pace is excruciatingly slow. At the start of one scene, you can see the clapper being pulled out of frame.

Larry Buchanan may have been the most prolific director of bad films in Texas, but he didn't make the worst film there. "Manos" is worse than any Buchanan film, and more enjoyably bad.
